Nordfrost 5 Vs Hakkapeliitta 7

winter with snow up to middle layers

The climatological summer (it covers the months of June, July and August) ended with a marked decline at the end of cold air. Snow fell in the central and eastern Swiss Alps, locally up to 1400 meters down in Austria, the snow line sometimes even lower.

wonder how the 84-hour back trajectories show (distance traveled in air mass): The air mass originated namely, originally from the North Greenland:

Otherwise, I'll do it myself today, just a collection of links to various reports for cold air intrusion as well as general weather conditions collected in August 2010 had (at least I have written the report by MeteoSwiss is also a part ....)

Frühherbstlicher cold air intrusion (MeteoSwiss)
cited the onset of winter in late August 1995 I'll never forget - I was in fact at the time the first summer in the Great z'Alp as Rindlihirt Kleinwalsertal, Vorarlberg. At 1,500 m was 45 cm snow (including a number of snow slides left and right of the hut). The 60 cows and calves, we could barely tie in two narrow stalls. However, they got to eat 5 days almost nothing, only for a daily mouthful of old hay's has just passed ... The September but was subsequently extended with a beautiful summer grazing season. Photos of this memorable event are not currently available in digital form, but there are a couple of suitcases full of slides. So, enough memories to warm up. Back to the subject

current photos and newspaper reports of 20min , view , view in the evening (p. 4): Well, the quote in the text ("Snow in August, comes every year to 1500m before ") is not really correct.
Also in the Austrian Alps gave it to snow:
Up to 40cm snow (report by the Austrian weather service)

Monats-/Sommerrückblick the Meteocentrale

is now clear it out completely - the moment's looking for a very cold night and a cold first September morning from (possibly with ground frost).

Spinning Cycle Squeaking

heavy rain eastern foothills and Alps - again extreme rainfall in parts of Vorarlberg in Bregenz Evening

A low has moved since last Thursday from Genoa to the Adriatic Sea to the northeast (see pictures below). A delicate Conditions with respect to precipitation, not only in Switzerland but in many parts of Central and Eastern Europe in particular (depending on the exact trajectory and activity of the lows). The track of the downs was already in 1891 by William Jacob van Bebber documented and received the designation "5b" (the original Vb). Accordingly, this weather is still referred to as the 5b position.

Yesterday it first, especially on the Southern Alps and in the Grisons, the wind shift to northwest, the rain moved in the evening and at night to become one of the central and eastern foothills. Due to the amount of flow of incoming cold air formed mainly in the easternmost strong thunderstorms, which were reinforced at the first pre-Alpine chain. It spreads fell 40 to 60 mm rain, occasionally, there were over 100 mm.
the basis of the total precipitation from the radar data is the focus of the fallout from the fabrics / SG on the Linthebene to the northernmost part of the canton of Glarus found:
24-hour precipitation derived from radar data
data: MeteoSwiss, Graphics: GIN-information platform
on the weather station Bilten / GL fell within 12 hours 87 mm rain (Source: Meteocentrale ). The flow of incoming cold air, snow levels dropped to 2,000 meters. Further details can be found in the Report of MeteoSwiss .
was feared Like neighboring Vorarlberg most affected by the rainfall. For the greater Bregenz, this was the fourth event of heavy rain within 14 days (see last blog entry ).
This time, the precipitation was more extensive scale, but significantly affected were the lower Rhine Valley and the Bregenzerwald. Within 24 hours were quite common in these regions, 100 mm rain, occasionally there were 130 to 160 mm. The greatest 24 hour total was measured at 166 mm on Bödele, 1150 m above Dornbirn:

and temperature (orange) at the weather station Bödele above

At the station Schönbach in Bregenzerwald were only 50 mm of rain within an hour, a total were totalized 138 mm. Both of those regions are among the wettest in Vorarlberg. In the long term average fall here each year 2100 to almost 2400 mm of rain. Even in Switzerland there are areas with similar annual totals. These are most likely from Einsiedeln Alpthal south of the region associated with high Ybrig to Muotathal and in Alpstein (Schwägalp).
